The goal of the BCHIP Tobacco Control Program
is to work with healthcare professionals to reduce tobacco
use.
As a partner with the Bucks County Tobacco Control
Program, BCHIP receives state tobacco
settlement funding to provide coordination and outreach for
cessation within the community. BCHIP's Tobacco Control Program
responsibilities include:
BCHIP's Tobacco Control Program trains and educates
healthcare professionals in "nicotine dependence treatment"
using U.S. Department of Health's Clinical Practice Guidelines.
These guidelines focus on assessing patients' tobacco use and implementing
the steps to help patients become tobacco free.
Patient and community education provide information
focused on specific chronic illnesses associated with tobacco use
and second hand smoke. Intervention strategies promote smoking
cessation.
BCHIP also coordinates
smoking cessation
programs countywide. "Stop Smoking...Now" , classes meet on a regular schedule
at each of the seven hospitals located in Bucks County. This multi-session
program utilizes education, behavior modification, peer
group support and fun to assist participants to quit smoking. Financial Assistance is available to assure that all residents have ample opportunity to participate in smoking
cessation programs.
