Task Forces

BCHIP Adult Health Clinic

The Adult Health Clinic provides free care to low-income, uninsured adults living in Bucks County.

Lack of access to medical care for low-income adults was a priority need identified by BCHIP's original 1994 needs assessment and confirmed by the 2002 needs assessment; completed in collaboration with United Way and the County of Bucks. The Adult Health Clinic, providing free care to low-income, uninsured residents was established in response to this need.

At the Adult Health Clinic, every patient is assessed by a social worker and receives treatment from a nurse practitioner or a physician.  The three hospitals in Lower Bucks County (Frankford Hospital - Bucks County, Lower Bucks Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center) provide laboratory, radiology and other diagnostic procedures.  We attempt to arrange some speciality care either free or low cost.

The Adult Health Clinic provides the following services:

       Primary:

  • Medical care for acute and chronic illness
  • Routine physical exams
  • Enroll in Pharmaceutical Assistance programs when necessary
  • Blood tests
  • X-rays and other diagnostic tests (may require partial payment)

       Attempt:

  • Referrals to specialty care
  • Social service referrals
  • Patient education

Clinic patients must be Bucks County residents at least 18 years old, have no medical insurance of any kind, and have household income less than 200% of the federal poverty level. Patients must not be eligible for Medical Assistance.

In the summer of 2008 the Adult Health Clinic moved into a new, larger space, donated by St. Mary Medical Center, to accommodate the growing demand for our services and the growing complexity of client issues.  This expansion has not only allowed the Clinic to treat more patients, but to create a broader continuum of care.  The Clinic is now open five days a week and is offering an average of 39 hours of care.

In Fiscal Year July 2008 through June 2009, BCHIP Adult Health Clinic saw 1,896 unduplicated patients through 6,326 visits, a 32% increase over the previous year.  For the first six months of this fiscal year (July – December 2009), the Clinic saw a 72% increase in new patients and a 20% increase in visits.
